Bagan By Big Belly Bus

Big Belly Buses in Bagan

In Myanmar they are called “Big Belly Buses”. “Big Belly Buses” are the converted form of the Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) trucks that were left behind after World War II. Most CMP trucks were manufactured by the Canadian Chevrolet division of General Motors, and Ford Motor Company of Canada between 1940-1945.
The CMP No. 13 cab, an entirely Canadian design made from late 1941 until the end of the war, had the two flat panes of the windscreen angled slightly downward to minimize the glare from the sun and to avoid causing strong reflections that would be observable from aircrafts. Those trucks were used by the “American-British-Dutch-Australian” (ABDA) forces during the “Burma Campaign” — the South East Asia Theatre of World War II.
After World War ll, they were turned as a simple and economical way of providing bus transport
as passengers buses called Big Belly Buses.
